Mothers deserve the world, and what better way to celebrate them than with a special day dedicated to their love, laughter and endless support?
Every year our special Mother’s Day events at the Hythe Imperial Hotel are so popular, and spaces are filling-up fast!
So why not decide how you’d like to treat your Mum – and then get in touch soon to reserve your place at the mother’s day event of your choice.
Mother’s Day, or Mothering Sunday, has different traditions all around the world.
In Mexico, ‘Día de las Madres’ is a national holiday, where families come together to celebrate a day filled with mariachi serenades, homemade gifts and elaborate meals.
While in Japan, it’s traditional to give your mother a bunch of red carnations, then to visit a shrine to pray for her wellbeing.
And in Ethiopia, a unique tradition called ‘Antwahsa’ takes place. Families gather for a feast to celebrate mothers by singing songs and exchanging gifts – and it’s not just for one day, but a three-day celebration!
Australia has traditions very similar to our own here in the UK – breakfast in bed for Mum, giving her a handmade gift and a card, and celebrating with family over a meal.
But both Australia and America mark the day later in the year – in the second Sunday of May.
In the UK, Mothering Sunday falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent, which is fast approaching

Our Mother’s Day Lunch is a sumptuous Sunday roast with all the trimmings, crafted just for the occasion.
Take your seat in our award-winning Coast restaurant for three delicious courses, all prepared by our expert chefs using local seasonal ingredients.
Dishes on this special Sunday Lunch menu include pork collar with apple compote, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, pan-fried wild bass or a mushroom Wellington. All are served with accompanying vegetables, gravy or sauces.
To finish, choose from a Belgian chocolate mousse, sticky toffee pudding, macerated berries, ice cream or a cheese board.
The Mother’s Day Lunch is £39 per person, with a £20 deposit required at the time of booking. Best of all, children under 9 can eat for half the price, while under 3s are free.
It’s the perfect way to get together as a family, enjoy a delicious meal, and of course, there’s no washing up for anyone!
Or perhaps you would prefer to treat Mum to our decadent Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea?
Served in our Tea Parlour within the hotel, this includes a special menu of delicate finger sandwiches including smoked salmon, sirloin beef, ham or mature cheddar.
Next, enjoy a plain or fruit scone and lashings of jam and cream. And then, a truly tempting array of cakes, all served with a choice of speciality teas and artisan coffee.
The Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea is £30 per person, with a £10 deposit required at the time of booking.
Three slots are available – from 12pm, 2:15pm or 4:15pm.
For an extra-special treat, you might like to upgrade and add a glass of Moet & Chandon champagne. Cheers!
