Renewing your wedding vows, the perfect excuse to celebrate!

Renewing wedding vows has always felt like something that only celebrities or the very rich and famous do, but more and more people are coming together to celebrate their enduring marriages with a formal vow renewal ceremony. While some wait for a ‘special’ anniversary such as Silver (25), Ruby (40), Golden (50), Diamond (60) or Platinum (70), others are choosing to renew their vows at other key milestones such as the birth of a first child or other significant ‘life-altering’ occasion.

Here at the Hythe Imperial Hotel, we are very keen to put the Covid years behind us and are delighted to once again be hosting weddings for our wonderful couples. If you have had a tough time but now feel like life is finally worth truly enjoying again, why not mark that special relationship in your life by renewing your wedding vows and celebrating with family and friends right here on the coast with us in Hythe, a pretty Kentish coastal town steeped in history?

Perhaps you had to have a smaller wedding during Covid and now want to host the big wedding party you had always dreamed of? We would love to talk through your ideas with you and make it happen – our dedicated team of event planners don’t just organise weddings and are available to help with events of all types and for all budgets.

Here at the Hythe Imperial Hotel, we have a fantastic selection of elegant function rooms to cater for any size of party, from the Imperial Ballroom – our largest room with a fabulous terrace overlooking the sea – to the Garden room, a more intimate space with grand windows overlooking the garden that let in swathes of natural light. If you’re looking for something a bit different, then in the warmer months your renewal ceremony could be held in our gazebo in the garden; or if it’s out-and-out glamour you’re after, then our fantastic Moet & Chandon Bar would be just the ticket; available for private hire with far-reaching views over the Channel to France.

A couple of pointers if you are considering renewing wedding vows: there is no traditional script or format you need to follow; in that respect it’s so much easier to arrange than a wedding, as you can simply ask a family member or friend to say a few words before you say your vows (and these can be either the same ones you said during your wedding or you could decide to prepare something completely different that reflects on your marriage to date).

In terms of outfits, again, pretty much anything goes! You could also consider exchanging special pieces of jewellery, such as eternity rings, and you might think of ways to include your children in the ceremony.

For the party, there are no set expectations, so you could have a formal dinner or a more informal party with a buffet, or something completely different like a BBQ or hog roast. With the music – you can do whatever you like – perhaps you felt you compromised at your wedding, so this is a great opportunity to mix it up a bit! And finally, if you want speeches, then a vow renewal ceremony is a great opportunity to thank your friends and family for the support they have shown to you during your marriage. Do get in touch if you would like to renew your wedding vows with us here at the Hythe Imperial Hotel, one of the best venues in Kent for weddings – and for renewing your vows.
