Their journey from their first meeting to marriage is sure to inspire other engaged couples!
This is their story…
From Tinder to true love
Like so many modern love stories, Sophie and Joe’s began in 2018 – when they both swiped right on Tinder!
After being matched, they went on their first date. Sophie says, “We went to a pub for drinks – it was very lowkey”.
But it wasn’t until their third date, where Joe wanted to really impress, so he booked a table at a posh restaurant. But they both realised they didn’t like the food at all – and so headed for the nearest McDonald’s instead!
By their fifth date, during a minibreak to Dublin, Joe asked Sophie, “shall we give this a go then?”
And the rest, as they say, is history.
Family beginnings and a special proposal
In 2021, after the birth of their first daughter, Joe got down on one knee and proposed to Sophie.
When talking about romance in their relationship, Sophie laughs, “We both say I love you in equal amounts, but I am more romantic. Joe is the more spontaneous one. But I’m the one who likes to organise date nights!”
As new parents, they made their home in Ashford, not too far from the picturesque Kent coast and the Hythe Imperial Hotel.
Finding the perfect Kent wedding venue
After looking around three different wedding venues in Kent, the new fiancée and fiancé decided the Hythe Imperial was the right choice for them.
“First of all, we loved the gazebo and the gardens, and the ballroom was really elegant. It was also the wedding packages which really suited our interests and gave us what we were looking for at our wedding”.

Following the ceremony, they took a little time out to have a drink together, just the two of them. It was a very special, private moment, in the middle of the whirlwind day!
Then, the new husband and wife headed to the hotel’s beautifully decorated Imperial Ballroom for their reception, surrounded by their family and loved ones.
A minimoon to remember
After the wedding, Sophie and Joe took a ‘minimoon’ with their daughter, and have plans for another – just for the two of them this time – a little later this year.
We asked what advice they’d give to other engaged couples, who are also in the stages of planning their wedding.
Sophie says, “Always remember that the wedding is really just for you and your partner. It’s your day! Family and friends will be there to support you and will love whatever you do.”
