Because some promises are worth making twice
You said “I do” once. Maybe 10, 15, or even 25+ years ago…
And celebrating your wedding anniversary every year is a wonderful thing, and a reminder of your special day all those years ago.
But many couples want to take it a bit further, and have a vow renewal ceremony in Kent.
It’s not simply another anniversary, it’s much more. It’s another day to celebrate, with all your family, friends and loved ones around you. Perhaps some of them weren’t in your lives when you first got married, so it’s a great way to include them too.
So a vow renewal is a lovely way to look back at everything that’s happened since your original wedding day… the time together, the houses you’ve lived in, the holidays – the family dramas! – the new arrivals, and all those plans that changed along the way.
But a vow renewal ceremony means you get to make those same vows and promises, all over again.
Only this time, there are fewer rules to follow…
What exactly is a wedding vow renewal?
Basically, it’s a chance to say “I do” all over again… but without actually getting married again.
A vow renewal ceremony celebrates the promises you made to each other when you first got married.
It has no legal status, you don’t need to get another marriage licence, and at the Hythe Imperial, our Kent vow renewal ceremonies are designed purely around celebrating the two of you – without any of the formality, paperwork, or nerves of your original big day.
And we see couples choosing to renew their vows for all sorts of different reasons.
A big, milestone anniversary is the obvious trigger – perhaps your Pearl or Sapphire. But it doesn’t have to be tied to a number at all.
Sometimes, you’ll simply reach a point where it feels like the right thing to do.
Why renew your wedding vows?
There are probably just as many reasons to have a vow renewal as there are reasons to get married in the first place!
Every couple has a different reason. Maybe your original wedding was small, because that’s all you could afford at the time – but now you want the celebration you couldn’t have back then.
Or perhaps you got married abroad and some important people couldn’t attend – or you had a traditional wedding first time around and fancy doing the complete opposite now.
Whatever your reasons, it’s completely personal, private and between you both.
And sometimes there just isn’t a dramatic reason at all – you’ve spent a very long time together, you still rather like each other, and that feels like more than enough reason for a little celebration and a few glasses of champagne.
Who needs any other reason? That’s plenty enough for us!
This time, really make it your own
With no set rules, you can make your vow renewal completely your own…
One of the best things about a vow renewal ceremony is that there’s zero obligation to recreate your original wedding day.
You could repeat the vows you made all those years ago, word for word.
Or write entirely new ones that reflect everything you’ve learned about each other over the years.
You can exchange your original rings again, or exchange new eternity rings. You could include a favourite reading, a piece of music or a meaningful song, or you might like to make your children or grandchildren part of the ceremony.
Invite 10 guests – or 50.
Keep the whole thing quiet, laid-back and romantic – or treat it as the excuse you’ve been waiting for to get all the family together again.
But… what you want to do and how you go about it?
Renew your vows by the Kent coast
If you’ve been looking for a vow renewal venue in Kent, let us show you around…
The Hythe Imperial Hotel sits directly on the seafront, and overlooks the English Channel. The historic building dates back over 145 years, but inside it mixes the classic with the contemporary.
For your ceremony we offer large landscaped gardens with a gazebo, a sea-view terrace and a choice of elegant function rooms inside the hotel.
So depending on what you have in mind, the vow renewal can take place looking out over the sea or our gardens. Then, move on to drinks, photos, food, and whatever else your special day holds.
The setting is all yours to choose…
Our Pearl Vow Renewal Package – the intimate option
Not everyone wants another huge celebration…
For some couples, their vow renewal is just about keeping things smaller, and a little more personal.
Our Pearl Vow Renewal Package is built around exactly that kind of intimate celebration!
Starting from £1,299 for up to 10 guests, it includes a private ceremony overlooking either the sea or the gardens, with a dedicated Wedding Coordinator helping you plan everything in advance. And they’ll be on hand on the day, to keep things running smoothly and stress free.
This package includes sparkling wine and canapés, a Deluxe Sea View Room for the two of you to enjoy a night away at our hotel, plus a full English breakfast to follow the next morning.
Any additional guests can be added – up to a maximum of 20 for this intimate package.
It’s smaller in scale, but big on sentiment…
Our Sapphire Vow Renewal Package – for a bigger celebration
Or maybe you’ve decided that if you’re going to celebrate, you’re really going to celebrate!
That means our Sapphire Vow Renewal Package is for you.
These Kent vow renewals start from £7,700 for up to 50 guests. Alongside the ceremony, you’ll have use of our Imperial Ballroom and the sundecks, a delicious three-course meal, wine and drinks for the toasts, and also an evening finger buffet later on. There’s a one-night stay in a Deluxe Sea View Room for the couple too, plus preferential accommodation rates for any guests who want to stay over.
So while it isn’t technically another wedding, it can certainly feel every bit as special.
The choice is yours. Get in touch and we can help you create your perfect ceremony and celebration.
Will it feel like a wedding?
Just because it’s a vow renewal, you can still keep all the fun parts.
There can still be beautiful flowers and bouquets and a cake. You can have the speeches, your favourite songs, and a delicious meal prepared by the chefs from our Coast restaurant. And if you’re going for a larger celebration, you can still have a big party in our Imperial Ballroom too. You might even have another first dance!
And because the Hythe Imperial is a hotel, nobody has to leave the moment the celebrations start to wind down.
Both our vow renewal packages in Kent include a stay at the hotel for the couple – while the bigger Sapphire Vow Renewal Package also offers preferential accommodation rates for all your guests.
This means your family and friends can stay over, enjoy a mini-break in Hythe, celebrate with you, and even be there for a delicious breakfast the morning after.
That’s how you turn a single day into a proper weekend away!
So… Still do?
Start planning your wedding vow renewal in Kent today. Just get in touch, and we will start to help you plan your perfect celebration.
There just isn’t one ‘correct’ way to do this. Your special day can be sentimental, funny, extravagant, informal, or perhaps some slightly chaotic mix of all four!
It just needs to feel like you.
Because you’ve already done the hard part. You found each other. You got married. And you’ve stayed together, all these years.
You said “I do” once – and you meant it.
Now, perhaps, it’s time to say it again.
