Celebrating Mother’s Day allows you to show your appreciation and love for your mum, auntie, sister, stepmum, nan, or anyone else who has a special place in your heart.
If you’re looking to honour this occasion, the Hythe Imperial Hotel is the perfect choice – whether you want a delicious afternoon tea or a sumptuous three-course lunch.
When is Mother’s Day 2023?
In the UK we celebrate Mother’s Day in March. It’s always on a Sunday too, but the date changes every year.
Don’t get confused with the date in the USA and Canada – across the Pond they honour Mother’s Day in May.
All the Mother’s Day events at the Hythe Imperial Hotel in Kent are taking place on UK Mother’s Day this year, which is Sunday 19th March.
Indulge in afternoon tea
It’s one of the great British traditions.
Afternoon tea started in the 19th century, as a way to stave off hunger between lunch and dinner. But those times have changed!
Now, it’s the perfect way to indulge with delicious sweet and savoury treats.
At the Hythe Imperial, you can celebrate Mother’s Day with a very special afternoon tea in our Windsor Tea Parlour.
Enjoy delicate finger sandwiches with smoked salmon, chicken, ham or cheese. Then a choice of plain or fruit scones with jam and clotted cream. The debate continues whether you should dollop the cream or the jam on first – but we’ll leave that entirely up to you!
Finally, finish with a selection of cakes from a classic Victoria sponge to an indulgent opera slice.
All can be enjoyed with a wide selection of teas and artisan coffees. Or to make it extra special, upgrade to afternoon tea with a glass of champagne.
And as you’d expect – vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are all available on request too.

There are slots for Mother’s Day afternoon tea at 12pm, 2.15pm, and 4.15pm.
It’s the perfect way to spend a few hours and indulging in some special treats, and certainly beats a mug of tea and a biscuit at home!
A sumptuous Mother’s Day lunch
Alternatively, join us with your family for a sumptuous three-course Mother’s Day lunch in our elegant Coast Restaurant, which offers AA one-rosette fine dining.
The special menu for Mother’s Day 2023 includes starters of Cornish crab tart, roasted plum tomato soup, duck confit and asparagus mousseline.
Main courses include Kentish lamb, roasted sirloin of beef, line-caught bass, and homemade red pepper gnocchi.
Finally, enjoy a choice of desserts from sticky toffee pudding to honey-scented bavarois with a poached pear, or a selection of farmhouse cheeses and crackers. Delicious!
The full three-course Mother’s Day meal costs £37 per person, while children up to nine years old can dine for half the price.

Your Mother’s Day 2023 celebration doesn’t have to end there.
While you’re at the Hythe Imperial, why not make use of our fabulous spa facilities and treat someone special to a spa day for Mother’s Day?
Book in and you can enjoy the indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Or go all out and book a relaxing facial or pampering massage with our beauty therapists.
Our fantastic hotel located by the sea means you’ll also have the perfect spot to enjoy a Sunday walk along the Hythe promenade. Take in the sea air and perhaps walk off the calories you’ve enjoyed at afternoon tea or lunch.
You could also take time to explore the lovely town of Hythe, nearby Folkestone or the beautiful Romney Marsh.
It doesn’t have to be Mum
Mother’s Day really doesn’t have to be all about your mum.
