A wedding day is certainly one to remember – but wedding anniversaries are the perfect excuse to make the celebrations last a lifetime!

But there’s no need to wait for the annual anniversary! If you got married on the 14th of the month – why not mark the 14th of every month with a treat? Take a visit to the spot where you got engaged, a favourite restaurant or even have a meal or celebratory drink at your wedding venue!

It is thought that in the Middle Ages, gold and silver gifts were exchanged on 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries as it was a huge achievement to reach these milestones. When Queen Victoria celebrated 60 years on the throne with her Diamond Jubilee in 1897, diamonds became a popular gift for the wealthy. More gift ideas became popular in the 20th Century.

Here’s our quick guide to some of the traditional milestones and their modern-day counterparts:

1: Paper

A lovely notebook or photo album! Clocks are the modern choice – be it wall or perhaps a lovely wristwatch.

10: Tin

Tin was the traditional gift for a decade of wedded bliss. Perhaps sneak a gift into a tin of biscuits or chocolates? The modern option for ten years is diamonds – and who wouldn’t want to find a diamond among the digestives?

25: Silver

25 years – as well as silverware as a gift (handmade jewellery or a photo frame?) – this landmark date might present a fabulous opportunity to host a party or even renew your vows.

40: Ruby

This is often a big celebration for families. As well as the beautiful gem, which represents romance, devotion and passion, there are a number of ruby blooms including the Camellia Ruby Wedding and the Ruby Rose.

50: Gold

A half a century as a married couple is definitely something worth celebrating – with no end of possibilities for gifts to exchange.

60+

When you reach 60, 65 and 70 years of wedded bliss, couples are entitled to receive a letter from Her Majesty the Queen!
