Planning a Christmas wedding entails some slightly different preparation to a summer one. While the cosiness of roaring fires and the romance of frosty mornings are why many couple choose winter for their big day, some consideration needs to go into a few of the details if you want to make it through without a cold. We take a look at some of the key dos and don’ts when it comes to that all-important planning.
Summer weddings can prove tricky to dress for given the unpredictable British weather. In winter, at least, you can pretty much guarantee cold temperatures, so it makes sense to ensure you, your bridesmaids and groomsmen are dressed appropriately.
Luckily, faux fur accents are on trend this season, so you can stay warm and look stylish too. Team your dress with a fur shrug to keep the cold off your shoulders and, if you choose a dress without sleeves, add elbow-length gloves to keep fingers and arms warm.
Alternatively, adding a leather jacket to your Christmas wedding outfits can stave off the chill and give an edgy touch to the proceedings.
Winter wedding ideas often include décor that focuses on colder colours such as whites, pale blues and silvers. However, bold, cheery colours go a long way towards making your venue seem warm and welcoming. Yellows, pinks or brighter blues can all be used to bring some sunshine indoors, even if it’s dreary outside.
Winter weather can make driving conditions difficult, particularly for older members of the party. Although many wedding venues in Kent have accommodation on-site, there will still be guests travelling on the day. So leave some wiggle room in the scheduling in case suppliers or guests are struggling to get to you, and have a plan B in place for some of the more critical things.
While it’s important to ensure your guests are warm – particularly elderly ones who tend to feel the cold more – you also don’t want to roast them! Have somewhere for members of the party to leave their coats, scarves and – if necessary – wellies, and ensure the reception room is cosy but not sweltering.
Although Champagne is always going to go down well at a wedding, bear in mind that guests may want something warm either before the meal or before they head home. Consider a hot chocolate bar equipped with cinnamon, mini marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles to heat up the proceedings, or have a selection of teas available. You can always have a selection of alcoholic add-ins such as Baileys or Amaretto on-hand for those who want it.
