The Perfect Valentine’s Proposal

According to a recent survey, 15,000 people got engaged on Valentine’s Day 2021 – and after the challenges of the past 18 months, we can expect this number to be even higher in 2022!

Many people opt for a quiet, romantic moment; others love the attention of a public declaration.
So, whatever you choose, how can you make a Valentine’s Day proposal memorable?

Know your soulmate…! If your partner prefers intimate, private moments, then a public proposal in front of in a crowd is probably not the best idea! Make it personal and think about what makes your relationship special. If you’re both foodies, make food a theme by choosing a favourite restaurant, private dining experience or a romantic and opulent afternoon tea – you could even hire a private chef for the ultimate Valentine’s date!

It’s all about the ring… Ok, so this one might be obvious but, if you are choosing the ring, are you happy that you know your partner’s preferred style? Are you confident in sizing? If you are proposing with a family heirloom, for example, be prepared to resize and don’t forget to ensure that the ring is safe and easy to reach when the important moment arrives!

Location, location, location… The ideal location might be somewhere that’s significant for you both. But it’s not all about the venue – think back to when and where you met, or a special time that you have shared; can you make this part of the set-up? If one of you loves the Zoo, or if a particular city or place holds special memories, why not plan a Valentine’s getaway to remember?

Get the family involved… Some choose to include friends and family members in their marriage proposal. We’ve recently heard of a proposal in a restaurant, where the bride’s entire family were hidden away in a function room and appeared on cue! Luckily the bride said “yes”!

Make them work for it… one of our favourite proposal stories involved a day-long treasure hunt through local landmarks – and ended with champagne and a diamond ring!

Get organised… Start your proposal campaign on 1 February; plant or deliver Valentine’s Day cards and messages daily, and make Valentine’s Day itself the finale.  Champagne, flowers and chocolates aplenty – and of course the ring, the showstopper!

Research also suggests that the average time between saying “yes” and committing to the perfect venue is just six weeks so, if the Hythe Imperial Hotel – one of Kent’s most popular wedding venues  situated right on the coast – is your perfect venue, be sure to book a visit as soon as possible as popular dates are quickly snapped up.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Hythe Imperial, one of the most romantic wedding venues in Kent – perfect for civil ceremonies and celebrations of any size!
